The Multisol group is aware of media communications which refer to an incident at Multisol’s plant in Sotteville-lès-Rouen (Multisol International Services), which may have been responsible for some unpleasant odours in the local area of Rouen around 1st January.
However, it is not clear that these odours did come from the Multisol plant.
Multisol did have a minor operational incident on 1st January in which some lubricating base oils and polymer was over-heated above its typical operating temperature. At no time did the product reach a temperature at which it could ignite, so we can confirm that there has been no fire.
Furthermore, whilst the oil and polymer may give off an oily, burning smell if over-heated, the heated components can lead to an unpleasant smell but do not pose a health hazard.
Contrary to reports in the media, the product concerned is not related to Lubrizol.
An investigation into the incident is underway, and the Multisol group is cooperating with the local DREAL authorities who have attended the site.
Multisol International Services in Sotteville-lès-Rouen undergoes regular safety and environmental inspections, including by third parties, has very well-established safety procedures, and has a proud safety record.
